Traditional Astanga Yoga
We teach Aṣṭāṅgayoga in the tradition from Mysore in India with Śrī R. Sharath Jois as the lineageholder, who is our teacher and the director of the Sharath Yoga Centre. He grew up in a yoga-family and as a teenager he learned the method from his grandfather Śrī K. Pattabhi Jois also known as Guruji.
A complete system for peace in mind and body
Aṣṭāṅgayoga as taught in this tradition is a complete system, which has been taught directly from guru to students through generations called paramparā.
The practice of āsana unites breath and movements termed vinyāsa where we through the breath, postures, āsana, and focal points, dṛṣṭi, create the foundation for calm introspection being in the present moment.
The āsana practice consists of 6 fixed sequences of postures which with dedication and regularity makes it possible to internalize our efforts into awareness, flexibility and strength of body and mind.
Sri R. Sharath Jois
Sharath Jois is the current lineage holder and the director of the KPJAYI. He has studied yoga under his grandfather, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
Guruji or Sri K. Pattabhi Jois was the lineageholder before SharathJi. He studied yoga under Sri T. Krishnamacharya. He also became a professor in Advaita Vedanta and sanskrit.
